Dmitry Baevsky - alto saxophone, Vincent Bourgeyx - piano
Alto saxophonist Dmitry Baevsky presents SOUNDTRACK, his 9th album, recorded in New York for Fresh Sound New Talent.
From a composition by Sonny Rollins or Ornette Coleman to a popular Russian song; from a classical melody drawn from the opera Le Prince Igor by Alexandre Borodineto a movie theme by Michel Legrand heard in Les Demoiselles de Rochefort ; from a jazz standard to Baevsky’s own compositions, Dmitry shines and stamps his identity throughout the repertoire.
Endless creative invention and inspiration, flawless technique, a warm and round sound, an unerring sense of melody... This is just some of the praise instilled upon Dmitry Baevsky by those who have crossed his path. With this album, he continues to elegantly demonstrate what a brilliant and moving musician he is, and without any doubt one of the most prominent alto saxophonists in jazz today.
He released his first album as a leader in 2005 with “Introducing Dmitry Baevsky” (Lineage Records). The album features such masters as Cedar Walton and Jimmy Cobb. Since then, Baevsky has performed and/or recorded with musicians such as Benny Green, Peter Washington, Willie Jones III, David Hazeltine, "Killer" Ray Appleton, Peter Bernstein, Cedar Walton, Dennis Irwin, Jeremy Pelt, Steve Williams, Joe Magnarelli, Ryan Kisor...
Vincent Bourgeyx started playing the piano at the age of 7. After studying musicology in Bordeaux, he left for the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he was the first student to win a Billboard Magazine scholarship. After graduating in 1997, he moved to New York for 6 years. In 1998 he joined the quartet of the legendary trombonist Al Grey. For more than 5 years he was also a member of the band of Jane Ira Bloom, one of the most renowned soprano saxophonists.
In the United States, Vincent Bourgeyx had the opportunity to work with, among others, Ravi Coltrane, Joe Locke, Billy Pierce, Donald Harrison, Jane Monheit, Chuck Mangione, Julian Priester, Antonio Sanchez, Greg Tardy, Mark Turner, Avishai Cohen...
