Concerts with some of the finest artists in Jazz today

Each concert will be 30 minutes (approx) and will be followed by a Q&A session with the performing artist(s).

The concerts will be live on Zoom. We have done all we can to achieve the best possible audio experience but we can only work within the bounds of the technology available at present. We advise using headphones.

Eleni Arapoglou - voice, Gilad Barakan - guitar

Eleni Arapoglou is a vocalist from Athens, Greece, based in NYC. She has been performing as a vocalist in a variety of different projects with music spanning from jazz, soul, south American folklore, and vocal improvisation ensembles, as well as with her own group. Some venues she has performed at include Carnegie Hall, Lincoln centre, Park Avenue Armony and National Sawdust. Teaching her vocal practice BodySong both privately and in programs such as Bobby McFerrin's Circlesongs at Omega Institute help shed light on the importance one’s movement to their voice. Eleni has been a Teaching Artist at Carnegie Hall working for Lullaby Project as well as a Music Mentor at Stuttering Association for the Young. 

Gilad Barakan has established himself as a prominent figure withina new generation of guitar players. Originally from Israel, he has been awarded the prestigious 'Outstanding Player Award' from Musicians Institute, awarded once a year to one musician by the great Scott Henderson. The same year he also won 2nd place at the Stanley Clarke competition. Gilad has toured Europe with vibraphonist Vid Jamnik and recorded an EP with his group The Mediant Collective. He has worked with Spanish producer Javier Limón (Paco de Lucía, Mariza, Buika) and appeared on a few of his albums, most recently on rising Venezuelan star 19' Latin Grammy Best New Artist, Nella’s debut album ‘Voy’. Gilad serves as musical director, plays acoustic guitar and often arranges Limón’s music.

Eleni and Gilad have been performing and recording together in NYC the past few years, sharing their mutual love for Mediterranean music as they both come from lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. They have a prepared a set of music with colors of jazz, soul, Greek and South American music blended in their own playful way!

Georgia Cécile - vocals Fraser Urquhart - piano

Georgia Cécile was Winner of ‘Best Vocalist’ at the 2019 Scottish Jazz Awards, and nominated for the Jazz FM Awards. She is also tipped as ‘One To Watch’ by BBC Introducing and Jazzwise Magazine. Georgia is receiving critical acclaim from audiences and reviewers as a result of of her powerful live performances. She is joined, on this concert, by pianist Fraser Urquhart. Since breaking onto the scene eight years ago he has established himself as one of the leading straight-ahead piano players in Scotland, celebrated for his taste, vast repertoire and for winning ‘Rising Star’ at the 2017 Scottish Jazz Awards.

Matthew Fries, piano Andrew Rathbun - saxophones   

Matthew Fries is highly regarded in the jazz world as both a soloist and accompanist. The winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition, his debut album, Song for Today (TCB Music) was named a 2001 critics pick by Jazziz Magazine, and his continuing work with his collaborative trio, TRI-FI, “takes on the Jazz Trio challenge and delivers a ‘knock out’ punch” (Jazz Review). As a sideman his work has been described as “the best jazz accompaniment I’ve seen in a cabaret in years” (The New York Times), and “the crispest rhythm section imaginable” (The London Times).

Matthew lived in New York City for almost 25 years performing with many of the greatest jazz musicians. He maintains a busy teaching and touring schedule – touring frequently with his collaborative trio, TRI-FI, and with singer, Curtis Stigers, as a regular member of his band. He continues to perform with a diverse lineup of artists that has included Curtis Stigers, Stacey Kent, Ann Hampton Callaway, DeeDee Bridgewater, Vincent Herring, Steve Wilson, Joel Frahm, Steve LaSpina, Dave Samuels, Claudio Roditi, Terell Stafford, and many others.

Toronto native Andrew Rathbun is widely esteemed as one of the most creative and accomplished saxophonists, composers and bandleaders of his generation. On tenor and soprano saxophones he has achieved a rare depth of lyricism, authoritative swing and compositional intelligence. Recording steadily as a leader since the late 1990s, he has documented his stirring original music with an array of extraordinary lineups, featuring the talents of such greats as Kenny Wheeler, Billy Hart, George Garzone, Phil Markowitz and Bill Stewart. “Rathbun’s lines dance and glide,” writes David Whiteis of JazzTimes, “reflecting both childlike wonder and well-honed artistry.”

Molly Flannery - piano Haley Peltz - vocals

Molly Flannery has a distinctive touch on the piano, with melodic improvisations, and the ability to groove in jazz, Latin, and Brazilian idioms. These talents, combined with her skills in arranging and composing music and leading ensembles, make her a major player in the highly competitive Boston jazz scene.

After studying composition, improvisation, and theory at Yale, Molly began her performing career in Kyoto, Japan in 1981 where she appeared frequently at local clubs, and eventually settled in Boston where she studied jazz with Ran Blake, Charlie Banacos, and Kenny Werner.

Haley Peltz is a singer and composer. Originally from Massachusetts, she began her career in Brazil where she lived between 2012 and 2017. In 2016 she was awarded 1st place in the Popular Singing Competition at the São Paulo School of Music (EMESP). While immersing in Brazilian music, Haley also strove to bring the sound of jazz and blues to her adopted country. Her last project abroad, a tribute show to the 100 years of Ella Fitzgerald, received critical and public acclaim across the state of São Paulo. In June 2018 she sang with the Harvard Alumni Jazz Band and led a quartet of veteran Boston musicians (Molly Flannery, Ebinho Cardoso and Miki Matuski) in the Middlesex Jazz Festival. Haley continues to seek new cultural connections between American jazz and Brazilian music, highlighting women composers. She is currently completing a master's in Jazz Composition and Arranging at UMass Amherst.

MIKE KANAN

Mike Kanan, piano

Michael Kanan hails from Boston, Massachusetts where he first began to play the piano at age 7. He started improvising at the keyboard early on, and by age 10 he was listening to jazz. His first instructor was pianist Harvey Diamond, a student of jazz innovator Lennie Tristano. During his years at Boston College, Michael had the opportunity to perform with several jazz greats including Tal Farlow, Lee Konitz, Al Cohn, and Alan Dawson. After graduating college and doing some freelance work around Boston, he moved to New York in 1991 to study with another Tristano student, the pianist Sal Mosca. He established himself in New York, playing and recording with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, and Jorge Rossy, among others. He also developed a growing reputation as a vocal accompanist. In 1996, he joined the band of legendary singer Jimmy Scott, touring the US, Europe, and Japan and recording 4 CDs. In 2001, Michael became the accompanist and arranger for one of today's most celebrated vocalists, Jane Monheit. With Ms. Monheit's group, he has toured all over the world, recorded several CDs and DVDs, and made many TV appearances, including The David Letterman Show and The Conan O'Brien Show.

When not on the road with the Monheit band, Michael performs and records with his own groups. He has made two trio recordings for Barcelona's Fresh Sound New Talent label: "Convergence" and "The Gentleman Is A Dope", both featuring bassist Ben Street and drummer Tim Pleasant. He has also recorded a duet with his longtime collaborator, alto saxophonist Nat Su, entitled "Dreams And Reflections". He can be heard around New York with his trio featuring guitarist Greg Ruggiero and bassist Neal Miner.
