Sara Dowling is a jazz singer who is deeply inspired by the repertoire of the classic American songbook, her most important influences are Sarah Vaughan and Betty Carter. And yet, as the clubs who have been booking her regularly in and over the past couple of years – Ronnie Scott’s, the 606 and the Cinnamon Club – have spotted, there really is something different, special and fresh about her. And that she makes audiences want to come back to hear her again. It is not her heritage, although that is unusual: she was born in Muscat / Oman with Jordanian and Irish parents. Nor is it her first career: as a professional cellist. So what is it? First, the fabulous fearlessness with which she approaches the act of singing. And the burning conviction, the irresistible communicative power and jaw-dropping musicality she brings to it. And maybe the fact that she leaves no stone unturned in her preparation. As she says : “I like to learn huge lists of songs that belong to one composer, to get the feel of the composer and his style. There is beauty to be found in all songs if they are written by one of the greats. That’s the beauty of the American Songbook.” She trusts her voice and its range of timbre. She trusts her ability both to convey the emotion of very slow ballads - or to bring joy as she rip-roars and scats through faster songs. And above all she makes a wonderful connection both to the music and to the audience.
Sara was voted best vocalist for the British Jazz Awards 2019 and often guests with the Ronnie Scott’s All Star Band.

Rob Barron - Piano

Pianist Rob Barron a mainstay of the jazz and studio scene. He has played with outstanding jazz musicians such as Phil Woods, Grant Stewart, Al Jarreau, Patti Austin, Marlena Shaw and John Marshall and as well as UK based musicians including Dave O’Higgins, Claire Martin, Anita Wardell, Mark Crooks, Colin Oxley and Nat Steele. As a session musician Rob has played on many film sound tracks and has worked with the BBC Big Band, The Philharmonia Orchestra and The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra
His playing style evokes a quality and touch reminiscent of the great blue note pianists such as Cedar Walton, Sonny Clark and Hank Jones. Rob’s first album “What’s In Store” was released in spring of 2016 to great acclaim and was featured in Jazzwise magazine’s top ten straight ahead CD’s of that year.
Rob’s trio has played at the London Jazz festival several times and the group has also appeared as a support act for Louis Hayes’ quintet and Kenny Barron’s trio at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club.
A regular visitor to New York, Rob has studied with NY pianists Mike Ledonne, Michael Weiss, Michael Kanan and David Hazeltine. In January 2017 he performed a series of gigs in New York with Chicago based vocalist Monika Ryan
Tonight, together with Bassist Jeremy Brown the duo will be playing material from their upcoming second album release ‘From This Moment On’ featuring Rob’s inventive original compositions and new arrangements.

Barry's star is rising high on the European Jazz scene. He has accompanied, led and recorded with many of the world's leading Jazz artists including: Dave Friesen, Bobby Watson, Perico Sambeat, Charles McPherson, Deborah Brown, Ben Street, Drew Gress, Chris Cheek, Tom Rainey, Gerald Cleaver, Stan Sulzmann and many more.
He started his own record label called Moletone records in 2008. The first release was the trio record "The Music of Chance" featuring Ben Street and Jeff Williams, this received glowing reviews. A duo album followed this featuring the great bass player Dave Green, "Turn Left at Monday", performing rare songs by Alec Wilder and Ornette Coleman. His third release on Moletone records is "Babelfish" (you put it in your ear!), with vocalist Brigitte Beraha, and featuring Chris Laurence and Paul Clarvis.
In January 2014 Barry recorded two trio albums in New York; the first with Chris Cheek and Gerald Cleaver titled "Great News", and the next with Drew Gress and Tom Rainey called "Almost There"..

Multi-award winning Irish vocalist and composer Christine Tobin has had a base in both New York and London since 2014. She has earned a well deserved reputation as a spellbinding interpreter and writer with originality. A musical free spirit who blurs the lines to create her own unique style that is streetwise, eclectic, romantic and radical. In 2013 she won a “Herald Angel Award” at the Edinburgh Festival for this show and in a 5***** star review, the BBC Music Magazine wrote that she had ‘struck gold ’ with her album A Thousand Kisses Deep. She also won ‘Jazz Vocalist of the Year’ at the prestigious Parliamentary Jazz Awards in 2014. The concert tonight also features the wonderful playing of Phil Robson on guitar.

Will Barry is an award winning rising star pianist from London.
At just 27 years of age he is part of numerous projects internationally, most prominently touring with Phronesis bassist Jasper Høiby’s group ‘Fellow Creatures’ in Turkey, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Holland and also extensively in the UK.
Winner of the prestigious MUSICIANS COMPANY " JAZZ YOUNG MUSICIAN AWARD 2017", he has performed at the North Sea, Love Supreme, Green Hours and Umbria Jazz Festivals, and appeared alongside Madison McFerrin, Perico Sambeat and Eddie Henderson as well as Cuban musicians Julio Montalvo, Yoel Paez and Issac Delgado Jr.
He is joined here by the UK’s most in demand (in and out of lockdown) bassist Jeremy Brown.

Grammy nominated organist, winner of Downbeat Magazine’s 2016 rising star poll and Hot House magazine’s 2019 poll, Pat Bianchi has established himself as one of the premier organists on the international scene today. His command of the instrument, harmonic prowess, rhythmic intensity and versatility are unrivaled. Bianchi has had the honour of being a long time member of the trio of jazz guitar icon Pat Martino, and also performed with NEA Jazz Master and saxophone legend Lou Donaldson as part of his quartet for a number of years.
Bianchi is featured on numerous recordings such as Tim Warfield’s Sentimental Journey, a follow up to Warfield’s recording One For Shirley (on which he also appears), as well as guitarist Chuck Loeb’s release, Plain and Simple. Bianchi continued as musicial partnership to with drummer Ralph Peterson Jr., forging ahead with The Unity Project. Bianchi was featured, recording much of the material on Peterson’s CD Outer Reaches. Soon after Bianchi released his second recording as a leader, Back Home. This recording features Terell Stafford, Ralph Peterson Jr, Wayne Escoffery, Carmen Intorre Jr. and Gilad Hekselman.
Building on the success of his 2015 recording "A Higher Standard”, his 2019 release "In The Moment” rose to #1 on the Jazzweek Radio Charts and features an array of guests including Pat Martino, Kevin Mahogany, Joe Locke, Peter Bernstein, Paul Bollenback, Byron Landham, Carmen Intorre, Jr.
Born in Buffalo, NY, Carmen Intorre JR developed an early interest in music and began playing drums at age five. He has performed and recorded with numerous musicians such as George Benson, Larry Coryell, Wynton Marsalis, Monty Alexander, George Coleman, Eric Alexander, George Cables, Benny Golson, Richie Cole, Joe Locke, Lew Tabackin, Bobby Watson, Ira Sullivan, Bucky Pizzarelli, and many others. Carmen currently holds down the drum chair with legendary jazz guitarist Pat Martino, touring extensively throughout the world with the guitarist’s organ trio and quintet.
A 2011 GRAMMY® nominee for his co-producer credit on the critically acclaimed album by Joey DeFrancesco entitled Never Can Say Goodbye: The Music of Michael Jackson, Intorre also had the pleasure of performing alongside DeFrancesco and Dr. Lonnie Smith on the PBS show Legends of Jazz, hosted by Ramsey Lewis.
Receiving both his BM and MM degrees from Juilliard Intorre is always eager to uncover the latest information about music and drumming and to share that information with others. He states, “This is my job. I have to give back what I was given a chance to do.” He goes on to explain, “Music is an opportunity for me to give up my soul, while in the process connecting with the audiences’ souls as well.
I want the musicians on the bandstand and the members of the audience to feel uplifted after a performance, to feel great about themselves through the experience that they encountered.”
Perhaps one word best describes Carmen Intorre and his music: Joy. Reminiscent of Billy Higgins, Intorre brings a palpable swing and drive to virtually every bandstand he performs on.

Bianchi's deep knowledge of jazz organ history continues to inform his own voice. While he is a proponent of the classic jazz organ trio sound, he's not confined by it.
